What is the best airport to fly into?
The Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) will likely be the most convenient option. Charlotte Douglass International Airport (CLT) is about 90 minutes away, but you will need to take a shuttle or rent a car to get to Columbia. If you plan to rent a car anyway, Charlotte may offer cheaper and more direct flight options, depending on where you are coming from.
Where to stay?
We are hoping to secure hotel blocks in the near future, so please check back here soon! As general advice, we recommend staying in the Vista (Gervais Street area) or near Main Street for maximum walkability and proximity to the wedding venue. There are numerous hotels within a short walk or Uber/Lyft/taxi ride of Senate's End. Tru by Hilton Columbia Downtown is the closest and is across the street from the venue https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/caeruru-tru-columbia-downtown/. Columbia has recently placed new restrictions on short term rentals, so area hotels are likely your best option.
Will there be parking at the venue?
Yes, but it is not unlimited. Please carpool or use a ride sharing service if you are able.
Is Columbia pedestrian friendly?
It can be challenging to get around Columbia without a car, though the Main Street and Vista districts downtown are much more walkable than most areas of the city. Please be careful crossing major thoroughfares downtown, like Huger, Assembly, Elmwood, and Bull streets, as drivers may not expect pedestrians on those roads.
Are children allowed?
Since the wedding and reception will be catered to adults, we recommend leaving the little ones at home to maximize parental enjoyment and minimize kiddo boredom. However, if you need to bring the kids with you for logistical reasons they will be welcome, please just let us know when you RSVP.
What should I wear?
Anything from dressy casual to cocktail attire will work just fine. Wear something nice that will be at least semi-comfortable for warmer weather and dancing.
Is anyone changing their name?
Nope! We both feel quite attached to our names after 37 years and have decided to keep them as they are.
What is the food situation?
While the exact details are yet to be determined, there will definitely be food, including vegetarian options.
Will there be dancing?
You better believe it! The bride and groom have reputations to uphold!
Is this an indoor or outdoor event?
Both, weather allowing. We hope to have the ceremony in the wedding garden outside, but can pivot to an indoor ceremony if needed. The reception will be indoors, with access to an outside deck area overlooking the garden.
What will the weather be like?
Columbia is “Famously Hot” and things will likely be on the warmer side even at the end of September. Average highs for this time of year are in the low 80s, with lows in the low 60s, and it may be muggy to boot. August through October is also the most active part of the Atlantic hurricane season. Fortunately, Columbia is about 130 miles inland and rarely sees severe or prolonged impacts from tropical systems.
